Chas Everitt Property in Cape Town NorthNorthern Suburbs Attractions and Destinations: There is a distinct difference between the northern and southern suburbs of Cape Town, and, as with many a city divided by a river or other landmark, Cape Town has an imaginary line the locals call 'the boerewors curtain'. The two are separated by the huge conglomerate called 'Century City' that serves as a shopping mecca for most of Cape Town, but which the northern suburbs regard as theirs - although it's actually north of the N1 that serves as the official border. Ask any resident of Cape Town and the major distinction between the northern and southern suburbs will be language - English-speaking people live in the south and Afrikaans-speaking people live in the north - but this is a sweeping generalisation and doesn't take into account the obvious exceptions to the rule. Suffice it to say that the newspaper of choice in the northern suburbs is 'Die Burger', whilst 'The Cape Argus' serves the southern suburbs. The northern suburbs are officially part of the City of Tygerberg, formed from the union of the municipalities of Bellville, Durbanville, Goodwood, Parow, Khayelitsha and Mfuleni. These suburbs have experienced an enormous property growth in recent years, not least because of their access to Cape Town International Airport, Grand West Casino and a number of wine routes, including the Durbanville Wine Valley. The suburbs in northern Cape Town on both sides of the N1 are called the "Northern
Suburbs". The main ones are Plattekloof, Bellville, Parow, Tygerberg and
Durbanville. Here - about 25 kilometres away from the centre of town - lives
the majority of the population of Cape Town. During the week at the rush hours
there is stop-and-go traffic on the N1. So many immigrants from Johannesburg
feel very much at home here. As a result the population of the Northern Suburbs
is growing steadily. Particularly popular is Durbanville, a very green residential
area with big properties and big houses. Nothern Suburbs Attractions Tyger Valley Shopping Centre Cape: Tyger Valley Shopping Centre is a shopping mall where international shoppers feel at home and Capetonians are proud to call their own. This dynamic and exciting shopping and leisure centre is situated just off the N1, a 12 minute drive from the Centre of Cape Town. Located in the fast growing Tyger Valley business district, this stylish and welcoming Shopping Centre is considered to be the retail heart of Cape Town - convenient, beautiful, comprehensive and welcoming. GRANDWEST CASINO & ENTERTAINMENT WORLD GrandWest Casino heralds an exciting new chapter in the Western Cape's entertainment scene. This amazing casino and entertainment world is a first for the Mother City and is also the only casino situated in the Western Cape. GrandWest offers round-the-clock entertainment for the whole family. Durbanville Only 20 km north of Cape Town, the Durbanville wine route, like Constantia, is very close to the mother city but frequently overlooked. Some nine estates lie on the beautiful, rolling Tygerberg hills, producing a wide variety of wines. The terroir is vastly different from one cellar to the next, and whilst some farms are influenced by the cool Atlantic Ocean, deep soils and night-time mists, those within the interior valley are snugger and warm. The result - a vast range of fruit-driven and stylish wines, some of whose history dates back as far as the late 1600s. The wine growers too range from the more traditional to the ultra modern and visiting the estates makes for a busy but rewarding day. Tygervalley Waterfront This is a mixture of commercial and residential property on Carl Cronje Drive. It includes a 4 ha man-made lake and a real storm water waterfall. The development is becoming a huge attraction, with modern buildings hugging the water canals, reminiscent of Cape Town's 'real' waterfront. Belville Bellville, Cape Town North: The residential suburb of Bellville lies a mere 25 kilometres outside of the centre of Cape Town on the N1 towards Stellenbosch, in the Tygerberg hills (in Cape Town you're never far from some form of topographical undulation), with breathtaking views over the winelands and the Stellenbosch Mountains. On one of the corners of Voortrekker and Durban Roads, in the heart of Bellville, lies the Twelve-mile Rockstone - an historical monument that marks the distance from Cape Town and the period during which this part of the world was an 'outspan' or resting place on the Cape Town to Stellenbosch Route - a welcome resting point for those whose wagons had already battled over the sand of the Cape Flats. Bellville's proximity to the N1 makes it a popular place to stay with visitors,
and besides the easy access to Cape Town's beaches, the suburb provides plenty
of opportunity to occupy one during one's stay. The Tyger Valley shopping centre,
the retail heart of Tygerberg, is a sprawling mall with a huge variety of shops,
boutiques and recreational facilities, in which most of Cape Town appear to
while away the weekend. |
